Just imagine a realm where mythical creatures dance to their heart’s content. Imagine a place where a colony of sprightly elves and witches are in complete sync with nature.

This jeweled folklore inspired creation is completely captivated by the mystical tales of the Fairy Ring…

Traditionally fairy rings are believed to be the dwelling places of fairies, witches, elves, supernatural beings and other mystical beings (perhaps even a unicorn or two!).

Fairy ring mythology permeates a variety of different cultures all over the world- with their own unique symbolic representation. Some cultures believe that they are cosmic portals to an alternative supernatural world or dimension.

Science tells us that fairy rings– or patterns of certain types of mushrooms that grow in circular formations are a naturally occurring phenomenon that usually appear year after year on grassy lawns, in fields, and in forests. Fairy rings occur when a mushroom spore falls in a favorable spot, grows a mycelium (the vegetative part of a fungus), and spreads out an underground network of fine, tubular threads called hyphae- creating an underground network of woven communication.

Ruby is the birthstone for July and Sapphire is the birthstone for September.

Sapphire and ruby have a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale- for example; a diamond is a 10. This element of hardness makes sapphire and ruby a great stone for everyday wear.

“Corundum is the mineral species that includes both sapphire and ruby as varieties. Red corundum is known as ruby and all other colored corundum (including colorless, or white sapphire as it is known in the trade) is sapphire.”- Gemological Institute of America. So in summary; sapphires and rubies are of the same mineral species (corundum), but if it's red it’s ruby and all other colors are considered to be sapphire.

One of the most fascinating and rewarding aspects of gemology is the study of inclusions. - Inclusions are valuable clues to help discover and unravel the secrets of the gem's past. Inclusions serve as a hallmark to the process of these precious stones, they also speak to us in direct correlation to their place of formation.

Corundum (sapphire) is found in igneous rocks. Sapphires are formed during the transformation of igneous rocks. When those igneous "rocks" are cooling slowly, large crystal minerals can form from those that present within the magma. The more slowly the magma cools, the larger the sapphires will be. When sapphires are formed naturally, they "grow" in a hexagonal pattern. You may need a microscope (aka a gemologist's best friend) to see these magnificent characteristics.
